As A Beginner You’ll Quit In 60 Days Because Of These 8 Reasons

by John McIntyre

This is a guest post by Haris Halkic. Read to the end for his special bonus on how to build your online business part-time so you can quit your job ASAP.

Experience shows that most of the people trying to make money online quit during the first 60 days.

Probably even sooner.

Only the “best” beginners will get to 60 days.

Most of them will quit beforehand.

They will get distracted by something else they think promises quick riches.

Something glittering like gold from distance.

They might even decide that online marketing doesn’t work after a few amateurish attempts.

Or they might order a few books or courses, store them on their computer, and never look at them again.

Maybe they’ll even print out the Boron letters from Gary Halbert, just to never read one to the end.

Some will get caught by their wife who believes it’s all a scam.

“I will not be one of them!” you may say proudly.

Don’t say that too lightly. It is human nature and circumstances come into play as well.

But what is it that makes beginners quit? How do you prevent it from stopping YOU?

Let us look at the most common reasons:

1. “I’m Not Ready. My Content Is Not Good Enough – No One Will Listen To Me.”

The fear of not being good enough is something we all know about and it’s stopping us from becoming the person we want to be.

At the same time, it can also be a good thing if it helps us strive for perfection; trying to make the best possible product.

But…

You have to learn to control this inner devil.

Unless you do, it will be your ticket to a life of mediocrity and unfulfilled dreams.

The feeling of not being good enough is in our DNA – it’s human nature.

What you have to learn is to act INSPITE of it.

Doubt is the number one reason most people never start their businesses, projects, websites, lists, whatever.

Maybe you ask yourself…

“Do I have anything of value I can put out there?”

“Will anybody listen to what I have to say?”

“What about the strong competition?”

“Will anyone pay for copywriting from me at all?”

“Will anybody care if I publish my content?”

“I’m not sure if I can really get it done.”

If Your Mindset Is Right – You Are Ready

If such questions are bothering you, I want you to do something that will make you and me feel better.

Go to your bathroom, stand in front of your mirror, and slap yourself in the face a couple of times.

Ok, come back and listen.

Look, it’s not about ‘being ready’.

You will NEVER be ready.

Don’t be like the guy that’s looking for the perfect pickup line to approach a girl.

And never does.

Meanwhile, the girl gets married and has three kids.

While this poor fellow is still looking for the perfect pickup line.

The only right moment is NOW.

If you belong to the people who want to perfect the art of writing copy or blogging on your desktop and start publishing when you are good enough, you‘re being the poor pickup guy.

Lots of lonely nights waiting for inspiration while others get laid.

It’s not going to happen.

If you don’t act, someone else will.

And he will take what could be yours.

You can’t learn to swim in your basement.

You have to get wet.

So start where you are. There’s no other way.

2. “I Want The Straight Way To Success And Someone To Lead Me There By Holding My Hand.”

I understand you.

You wish you had a personal coach that shows you exactly what to do and who’s always there if you need assistance and have questions.

Kind of like a tennis coach that holds you accountable every week of the year.

Making money online is different.

Dude, you have to start hustling.

When I started a beverage company with a friend after finishing college, I had no clue about the beverage industry.

We didn’t know how to create a new drink.

We didn’t know anybody in a new city.

We had no money.

Still, we went to work.

It’s amazing how things develop if you focus on one specific goal and constantly learn.

Neither of us knew how to find an investor and we tried dozens and dozens of approaches.

And you know what?

Our first investment came from the most unlikely place: Facebook.

A young entrepreneur saw us posting in various Facebook groups (basically, we were spamming) and he liked it.

He followed our story for 6 months and decided to invest.

This is a true story.

We just met him once in the lounge of Hotel Adlon in Berlin. Of course, we gave him a crazy pitch like we were on cocaine.

During the next three days, he decided to invest 30.000€ on favorable terms. We had no business back then – just an idea with a prototype.

Essentially, it was us hustling with 2,000 cans of our drink trying to sell it to some bars and convenience stores in Berlin.

The goal was simple: get into the stores even if we had to give it away for free so we could boast about how many selling points we have.

After the first investment, one thing led to another and more money came in.

This Is Me In Vienna During The Production Of The Drink

What I’m trying to get across is…

…you have to start hustling where you are right now.

You don’t need more preparation to start this on your own.

Of course, you need more experience and knowledge. Don’t let that stop you.

If you don’t know what to do, start simple:

  1. Register a domain. If possible, with your full name or a domain containing 1-2 keywords that describe what you are doing. In the same process, you should decide on a web hosting company.
  2. Chose a service for sending emails and building your list. Get an email marketing service that gives you a lot of opportunities later on, but is not too expensive.
  3. Put up a simple website and implement an opt-in for your list.
  4. Create content with good copy for your site.
  5. Get traffic. If you like to write, do some guest posts on other sites. There are lots of ways to do this.
  6. Write a report or eBook or get someone to write it for you.
  7. Find a payment solution (e.g. PayPal) and start selling you eBook on your site.
  8. Optimize and test. Do more of what works.
  9. Create new products and services to sell.
  10. Count all the money you’ve made online.

Don’t get confused by all the tricks and tips people want to sell you. The basics don’t change. (If you need personal help implementing step 1 – 9 read to the end.)

Besides, most of the gurus of today started with eBooks and later added it up. They created online courses, membership sites, coaching programmes, etc.

Don’t be a douche that just reads and consumes. Someone who only reads about the success of others.

Be someone who dares to try, be the one people follow and admire.

You might have all the excuses in the world for not even starting.

I have too.

English is not my native language.

I failed many times before.

I should let somebody proofread my texts since they are probably full of typos & false grammar.

At the same time, I once heard someone very clever say:

“You can’t edit what you haven’t written.”

Very good advice.

Since I’m too busy creating new content, I don’t have time for making it perfect.

Only by acting can you move toward your goals.

Your copy or product might not be the best it could be.

Don’t strive for perfection.

Learn to put something imperfect out there.

And see what happens.

No one’s going to put you in jail.

I promise.

It’s not about learning everything there is to learn about a topic and then starting.

You don’t want to be a walking encyclopedia without cash in your pocket.

3. “I’ve Heard About This 4-Hour-Week. Sounds Very Interesting Because I Hate Writing But If It Is Well Paid…”

Ok, this is for some of the people out there striving to hit it big online but have fallen in love with an idea that I have come across too often.

Dreaming about the “laptop lifestyle”.

Of being some shady, passive income mogul.

Screw that.

You better be prepared for work if you want to succeed.

You gotta love the work too, not just the dream.

Work is what gets you to your dream.

The dream is just the final state of you enjoying it.

Just Imagine What You Could Achieve By One Hour A Day…

Let me make it very clear…

If you hate the daily work, you have 0.00% chance of succeeding.

Am I promoting a fluffy “just follow your passion” B.S.?

No.

No one pays you for being passionate.

Find something you enjoy that other people are willing to pay for.

Do you think Tony Robbins focuses on personal growth, finance and relationships because he’s passionate about it?

Sure, he does.

But the way I see it is that this dude is also passionate about the money.

No coincidence that he chose these areas – they bring in the big bucks.

And you should be passionate about making money too.

After all, you are a businessman.

BUT, here comes the disclaimer…

You have to love what you do every day.

If you hate writing, don’t start a blog.

If you don’t like to be on stage, don’t do live seminars.

This is about freedom.

Not about getting you from a job you hate with a boss to a job you hate being self-employed.

I like writing. The feeling of creating stories and articles out of thin air has something intriguing about it.

Right now, I’m writing this on my iPhone from a large department store sitting on one of the waiting chairs in the women’s clothing department.

Looking like a guy texting feverishly back and forth with his girlfriend, haha! But I’m building my business instead. During my lunch break.

No one knows that.

Because no one except me has to know. (Except you and my subscribers)

If you’re like me, the best thing is to mind your own business without having to answer to anybody.

The way I see it, we were all intended to be a free man.

So keep this in mind:

You have to find something you like to do.

But don’t worry – you’ll find it out on your way, as you go along.

Keep looking and moving forward without trying to be perfect.

You having fun building your business depends also on the topic you choose.

It is a personal decision.

Even if you don’t know enough about it, you can work with experts. It’s best anyway if you have some real experience in your area.

If you don’t know anything about a topic, don’t do it.

Don’t just go for money and what everybody else is doing. Although others making money in a niche is a very good sign.

In other words…

“Don’t be a visionary” like Dan Kennedy says.

But that’s another story…

4. “I Want To Know EVERYTHING Before I Start!”

Lots of people in our industry have a common problem.

They consume without an end.

It’s like they are thirstier for information than for success.

They grab this report and that course; listen to dozens of podcasts and follow a whole bunch of gurus.

What for?

It’s like they want to learn everything there is about making money online BEFORE making even the first step.

I’m not trying to say good information is not necessary to succeed.

Hell, it is.

I’m just saying:

Don’t wait for perfection.

Get a viable product out there.

Continue to learn. Improve over time. Use feedback.

Don’t let where you are right now and what you know or don’t know today stop you.

Your product is always personal and represents where you stand right now.

Enjoy learning, enjoy the journey. Think long-term like software developers.

Do they care if a program is 100% finished?

No.

They just release beta versions and updates.

They fix bugs and release new versions annoucing them like it was the greatest thing in the world.

It’s an interesting mindset. Do the same. Keep advancing. Don’t stand still.

What you publish and sell will always be imperfect.

5. “I’ll Pay For Information Products & Coaching AFTER I Made Money Online.”

So you say you want to be successful. Have lots of money. Nice car. Large house. The full program.

If you don’t already have what you desire, I know what is stopping you from getting there.

The amount you invest in yourself.

Be frank with yourself.

How much do you spend on yourself?

How much do you invest in growing?

The fact is, you can’t find out everything on your own. You would need years – which is an eternity online.

So you have to rely on other people’s knowledge.

The interesting thing is…

Rich people spend the most on courses, coaching and information products.

It’s sad when I see someone broke not willing to invest in a course because it’s too expensive. Often they say:

“I will buy it as soon I have made some money online.”

Makes me become Wall Street figure Gordon Gecko yelling at him:

“Wake up, pal. Either you’re inside or you‘re outside, ok?”

You can’t be a little bit pregnant.

Either you are or you aren’t.

Want to learn?

Want to get rich with this?

Want to be a big shot?

Then buy the damn courses.

Are You Serious About Your Financial Freedom Or Not?

Don’t get me wrong.

I’m not saying you have to buy mine. I’m saying you can’t be a success unless you invest in developing YOURSELF.

Just think about it logically.

Who do you think Internet marketers care about the most? Customers who pay them thousands of dollars, or the cheap $17 eBook guy thinking about a refund in advance?

Who do you think they give the best advice to?

Who do you think they reply to when writing an email?

It’s the people showing they are committed not only with their talk, but also with their actions and wallet.

Think about it…

Let’s assume you want to open a McDonald’s restaurant as a franchisee.

If you don’t have the money they require to start a restaurant with their system, you would manage to get it, right?

You wouldn’t try to start small by selling burgers with the famous logo on the street corner, right?

Why?

Because it only works when you do it right. When you implement the whole system.

Everyone starting out needs coaching and guidance.

Just look at all the successful athletes. They ALL have coaches. Same goes for business people, politicians, actors, etc.

And you know what they have in common?

They are willing to pay for good information, because they know it’s worth it. They’re not cheap or try to become the best from reading ONE book.

Please keep that in mind.

6. “I’ll Learn EVERY Aspect of Online Marketing.”

What’s the area of your life you really want to master?

To give it your best shot?

Do you give anything exclusive attention?

If you can’t name 1-3 tasks, you are on your way to DOOM.

Why is this?

First, you can’t get really good at anything if you want to achieve and master too many things at the same time. Thus, you stay mediocre.

And no one remembers you; no one sees you as an expert.

You don’t deliver value.

Second, your time and energy is very restricted. There is no way you can accomplish many tasks at the same time without a great team.

Remember the guy who wanted to be present with this service on ALL social media platforms sites?

Neither do I.

And btw… since you’re going to spend most of your time on 1-3 tasks that really matter, chose something that truly interests and fascinates you.

It could be email copywriting or creating great offers.

It could be blogging or interviewing people.

The possibilities are limitless.

There’s Facebook marketing, copywriting, email marketing, webinars, coaching, SEO, blogging, interviews, etc.

You can’t become an expert in everything.

Choose what interests you the most.

7. “I Have To Make Money Fast – I Must Succeed Now!”

Calm down, friend.

Don’t get stressed.

I know what mental state you are in.

You want to soak in as much information as possible, read all the bookmarked articles, listen to all the podcasts, create a compelling website, put up your autoresponder, start cooperations, do webinars, get first sales, analyze traffic sources, and so on.

It seems your to-do list has no end.

And if you’re ambitious you want it all NOW.

Well, that’s often the problem.

Don’t be impatient.

First you have to build.

You have to sow to be able to reap.

If you don’t listen to me and try to achieve a lot in a short amount of time, you will experience stress.

It will paralyze you.

Am I saying you can’t be successful in a couple of months?

No. You definitely can.

There’s just no point in putting yourself under pressure, especially if you don’t have to.

You deliver much better results if you think long-term and are relaxed.

8. “I Need To Study This First From A To Z To Become A Real Expert.”

Information overload is the single biggest problem people have today in Internet marketing.

They truly want to start making money online. But where do they start?

One website leads to the next. Soon you have a folder on your computer for PDFs on how to build a list – but still no list. You have watched Frank Kern on YouTube, Neil Patel has sucked you into one of his webinars, somehow you discovered Dan Kennedy’s books… it never ends.

Don’t get me wrong. These are fantastic resources. But if you spend most of your time consuming or storing information it’s no wonder you can’t find time to implement it.

START. Somewhere.

Then work your way up. Decide for a specific niche or part of internet marketing.

Something that you find interesting and that you like.

If you like writing, try blogging, copywriting, emails, etc.

If you like talking, try videos and podcasts.

If you like talking to people, try interviews and seminars.

If you like to stay out of the limelight, try SEO.

The most important thing is that you niche down and start building your own business step by step.

I knew a guy who was in the dating community a few years ago.

He wanted to have a girlfriend but was way too shy to approach a girl.

After discovering the whole dating advice industry online, he started listening to every audio programme and reading every eBook he could find. After 6 months his computer was full of dating advice but he still hadn’t approached even one girl.

But he knew in theory how to do it. He had the best pick-up lines memorized. Thought he knew the psychology of dating etc. In his eyes, he was preparing.

Sadly, it was all a waste of time.

The point is, if you’re not willing to act on the advice you get, stop it.

I’m serious.

Don’t waste your time.

Spend it instead with something more pleasant like sports, recreation, your friends and family. It’s like going to college knowing you’ll never apply what you learn because of some obscure reasons.

That doesn’t make sense.

Please slow down if you are highly motivated. Reduce learning and acquiring new knowledge. Give yourself time to learn the business in practice as well.

Act immediately.

Don’t delay on things you can implement right now.

And do what you enjoy. Unless you do, this is going to be a tough ride.

But before you can realize your dream, you have to deliver value to the people.

You can only do that by taking action.

Ask yourself every day what you have PRODUCED, not what you have CONSUMED.

Success in Copywriting & Marketing Comes From Implementation

The reason is simple…

…you only get paid for producing.

And stick to what you have once begun. This is a very important habit. You don’t get paid for doing 60% or 95% of the job. Life rewards only the ones completing tasks 100%.

Want a simple success formula?

FOCUS & FINISH.

Concentrate your thoughts and actions on one goal. Same goes for the WAY you want to achieve it. So, don’t change your strategy weekly.

Good luck on your journey.
